Farr West and Sierra Controls Business Development Manager

We are in search of a full-time Business Development Manager to join our team in Reno, Nevada. This position will be a mix of business development and marketing, overseeing a marketing coordinator and assisting with outreach for both Farr West Engineering and Sierra Controls, LLC. Farr West is a growing company that specializes in utility engineering and water resources. We are looking for someone to assist the company with strategic planning, growth, outreach, marketing, proposal management, and leadership. This is an exciting and challenging position ideally suited for a creative, self-motivated individual.

Primary Responsibilities

Working in a cross-functional, team environment, the Business Development Manager will support growth initiatives and marketing activities in a growing market, including proposal and statement of qualifications development/management, Requests for Proposals (RFP) / Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) compliance reviews, coordination of the proposal development process, working with company leadership, technical writing/editing, and a range of other internal and external tasks.

Civil Engineer (P.E.) - Water Resources Project Manager

Marketing Coordinator

We are in search of a full-time Marketing Coordinator to join our team in Reno, Nevada. This position will be a mix of “traditional media” marketing, and some social media outreach. Farr West is a growing company that specializes in utility engineering and water resources. Senior Electrical Engineer Manager

Responsible to provide electrical engineering design for a wide range of projects associated with the water, wastewater, irrigation, structural, transportation and civil engineering designs. This work includes but is not limited to, power distribution design, electrical system evaluations and assessments, medium voltage & 480 V designs, dry utility undergrounding, utility coordination, and I&C Designs.

Key Responsibilities:

·   Manage multiple concurrent Electrical Design projects.

·   Work with other Sr. Engineers and Project Engineers to provide a quality experience for our customers and successful integration to meet each customer’s needs.

·   Lead the Electrical Department.

·   Review proposals to ensure technical accuracy for own projects.

·   Work with engineering teams on the coordinated Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural and Controls Design for projects.

·   Assist with managing department projects.

·   Mentor and supervise other engineers.

·   Conduct periodic visits to construction sites to monitor quality and progress of the work.

·   Coordinate with government agencies, client staff, and other professionals to obtain design information and approvals.

Candidates for the senior-level hydrogeologist with a desire to continue their career in water resources and groundwater investigations and development, including well design and rehabilitation, are encouraged to apply. The ability to travel to diverse project sites, including rural locations in northern Nevada, is required. Summary

This is a full-time position to provide a full spectrum of environmental research, fieldwork, documentation, report preparation, public involvement, and local, state, and federal agency coordination services to clients in the area of environmental documentation and permitting in support of a variety of public and private infrastructure projects.

We are accepting applications for a water rights specialist to work under the direction of the Water Rights Department Manager in our Reno, Nevada office. Qualified candidates will perform various water right related tasks, including water rights research and maintenance, administrative form preparation, site inspection and data gathering, consultation with water right owners, and project management. Water rights specialists pursuing a Water Rights Surveyor license will eventually help prepare and sign water rights maps. Specialists maintain regular communication with clients to understand and document project information, which is relayed in various forms required by the Nevada Division of Water Resources. Specialists will research records at the Nevada Division of Water Resources and provide findings to team members, which are typically expressed in summary memos and excel spreadsheets.  

 Examples of Duties

·      Research legal chains of title and ownership status of water rights using County Assessor, County Recorder, State Engineer, and Federal Water Master records.

·      Prepare and submit to the Nevada State Engineer’s office various state water rights administrative forms and applications. (Example: Proof of Completion and Beneficial Use, Extensions of Time, Reports of Conveyance).

·      Research State Engineer’s water rights file to determine the status and standing of water rights permits.

·      Assure an accurate computerized water rights inventory necessary for the management of water rights.

·        Seven (7) years of full-time experience administering water rights, including acquisition, dedication, maintenance, research, and transfer of water rights; OR an equivalent combination of training and water resource management experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Duties will include team leadership on multiple projects, design, bidding, and construction management of public works projects involving water and wastewater facilities.  Duties may also include supervision and mentoring of other engineers.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or environmental engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in utility engineering, water, sewer and wastewater projects preferred.
  • Applicants should have previous experience with designing community water and sewer systems, pump stations, and water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Experience with utility master planning and utility hydraulic modeling is also preferred.
