One of our greatest areas of expertise is with community planning and engineering. The services we offer for water, wastewater, collections, and conveyance in this area are comprehensive.

We provide our clients with the planning and modeling, permitting, design and construction management to complete successful projects. Our firm has robust experience in providing stormwater management, flood control, drainage, and best management practices for municipalities, utilities, and private clients.

Farr West has provided these services to communities and special districts throughout Nevada and northern California for over 15 years.

Farr West’s in-house water resource expertise sets us apart from other Nevada based civil engineering firms. Farr West’s water resource team focuses its efforts in evaluating and developing water resources in Nevada, where water production and water quality have been problematic for many water system purveyors. Our extensive experience results in budget conscious water resource investigations and the development of economical water supplies that meet the needs of the water service provider. Dr. Kirk Swanson has the full understanding of available techniques and methodologies available from drilling and pump contractors that is critical to achieving positive results.

Additionally, Farr West offers a unique and sophisticated water rights group. The group consists of several Nevada State Water Right Surveyors and Water Right Specialists. This group focuses on water rights research, permit filings, title assignment, survey monitoring and mapping, forfeiture prevention, proofs, and permit compliance.

Farr West provides consulting on a wide variety of transportation projects.

Our talented engineers understand all aspects of civil design, survey, mass grading, drainage, transportation design, traffic plans, and pavement analysis and inspection.

We collaborate with our clients to provide pavement management and planning for roadway rehabilitation and maintenance.  We bring cost-effective and sensible solutions to our clients for their transportation needs.

Farr West has solid working relationships with large and small mining operations in Nevada.

Our firm regularly performs water resources, quality, and treatment; wastewater collections and treatment; survey; haul road design, grading and drainage; water rights, and mineral surveys for our mining clients.

Our Elko Office has been working in mining for over 100 years (formerly Chilton Engineering) and has a full understanding of the industry trends, goals, and safety measures that must be taken to work with these clients.

Farr West offers a full-service survey department in both our Reno and Elko offices.

We have several, full-time, survey crews that specialize in boundary and control surveys, topographic surveys and mapping, preliminary and final design surveys, construction surveys/staking, claims staking, route surveys/easements, subdivision and parcel maps, and quantity monitoring/asset data collection.

Our crews are there to support Farr West’s design projects, as well as to serve our clients with any surveying needs.  Having in-house survey allows our team to provide comprehensive municipal engineering services with quick turn-around times and high quality, accurate results.

Farr West has a robust community development and building inspection services team to assist our clients in managing day to day needs.  Our team is led by Dave Snelgrove, AICP, who has over 20 years of experience in land use planning and right-of-way management.  Dave’s team can assist with plan reviews, building inspections, permitting, code enforcement, planning, right-of-way, and more.

We are currently serving as the entire Community Development Department for Lyon County, and are offering these services to many more of our clients.  We offer low-cost, efficient solutions to your community’s development needs.

Farr West provides a broad spectrum of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) services including data engineering, data entry, system integrations and system enhancements.

The mission of our GIS Department is to enable clients to use GIS as a centralized tool in support of daily operations, planning, and asset management. We work with clients to build a GIS that will assist them in condition assessment, master planning, capital improvement planning, e-911, hazard mitigation, assessor information management, and overall asset management.
