Farr West Engineering is a true leader in water conservation in Nevada. Brent Farr and Danny Sommers are certified to teach the AWWA California/Nevada Section Water Conservation Workshop, and have provided this workshop to hundreds of people in both Nevada and California. This two-day course prepares water utility professionals for the Water Conservation Practitioner Certification exam, and includes training on Nevada and California water conservation laws and guidelines. For example, the course includes a thorough presentation on the Best Management Practices (BMPs) listed and described in the California Urban Water Conservation Council (CUWCC) Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

As a result of the water conservation training, both Brent Farr and Danny Sommers are familiar with the laws and requirements that pertain to California Urban Water Management Plans, such as the 1983 Urban Water Management Planning Act and the 2009 Water Conservation Act that sets an overall goal of reducing per capita urban water use by 20% by December 31, 2020.

Water conservation plans in Nevada require an analysis of the effectiveness of proposed water conservation measures, as well as an analysis of the effectiveness of utilizing a conservation-based water rate structure. Farr West has extensive experience providing these cost/benefit analyses for our clients in compliance with Nevada water conservation regulations.

Project Highlight: Douglas County Water Conservation Plan

The Douglas County Water Conservation Plan was a significant effort. This plan contains water demand projections, opportunities for water recycling, water shortage contingency plan, and water conservation measures. The plan assisted the County with modifications to their landscape code, water ordinances and drought plan.
