  • Hydraulic Modeling Civil Engineer

    Hydraulic Modeling Civil Engineer

    Farr West Engineering is currently seeking a self-motivated Hydraulic Modeling Civil Engineer to be located in our Reno, Nevada office. This is a growth position for a career-oriented person who is seeking an opportunity to work with one of the most reputable engineering firms in Nevada.  Our hydraulic modelers have a broad range of applications across water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure planning and design. You will gain exposure to innovative modeling tools and techniques with a wide range of applicability. You will collaborate in an open and friendly work environment, and utilize traditional and innovative approaches to alternatives modeling and capacity analyses. You will be encouraged to apply your problem-solving skills to a wide variety of applications and challenges. You will also work with others to integrate hydraulic modeling and tool development into critical path between system planning and capital project design and implementation.

    Key Responsibilities:

    This position is responsible for modeling water distribution and/or sewer collection systems in support of on-call requests, engineering reports, master planning projects, and support for preliminary and final designs. You will be involved with and responsible for a wide variety of interesting assignments, including:

    • Performing hydraulic modeling,
    • Qualitative data analysis and interpretation,
    • Applying sound engineering judgment to unique applications,
    • Managing tasks and leading small multidisciplinary technical teams,
    • Working with clients to provide meaningful results and excellent client service,
    • Writing technical memorandums, engineering reports, and planning studies.


    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering;
    • 3 + years of relevant experience in water distribution and/or sewer collection system modeling;
    • Strong background in closed conduit and open channel hydraulics;
    • Experience in water distribution and/or sewer collection system modeling;
    • Ability to utilize GIS for analysis, model integration, and figure generation is a plus; and
    • Proficient with Innovyze, Bentley, and HEC based Modeling software.

    Farr West Engineering has an opportunity for a full-time Billing, A/R, and A/P clerk with excellent communication and multi-tasking skills to join its team in Reno, Nevada. We are seeking an energetic team player who is organized, professional and detail oriented.  Primary duties include setting up project budgets and completing monthly invoicing using Ajera (by Deltek), our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.  Other duties include organizing contracts and subcontracts, processing payments, and following up on accounts receivable. The job will also include office admin support such as document copying, binding, and scanning. Qualified candidates must have strong computer skills and MS Office experience, including strong skills in Word and Excel. Previous experience with invoicing and generating reports in an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software is desirable.

    Farr West Engineering is looking to hire an experience payroll professional to work for both an engineering firm and general contractor/manufacturing company.

    • A payroll specialist will conduct bi-weekly payroll, including timekeeping and audit processes for all employees. An in-depth understanding of compliance with payroll taxation, garnishments and other pay benefits of part-time and full-time employees is required. An applicant must have experience with prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting for Nevada and California (Oregon and Idaho are preferred as well).  Applicant will be required to process payroll taxes and have a working knowledge of Nevada and California labor laws in addition to Federal labor laws.

    Summary

    This is a full-time position working independently doing boundary, control, ALTA surveys, topographic surveys, and computations for construction staking.

    Essential Duties And Responsibilities Include The Following

    • Take responsibility for safe work practices.
    • Represent the company in a positive way.
    • Work independently on multiple projects at once.
    • Prepare mapping for control, cadastral/boundary, ALTA surveys, topographic surveys and computations for construction staking.
    • Maintain quality control and keep the work on schedule and within budget.
    • Prepare cost estimates and write proposal documents.
    • Prepare work plans and communicate with field and office staff.
    • Utilize appropriate equipment to perform work.
    • Assist in the maintenance of equipment and vehicles.

    Education And/or Experience

    Minimum of two years of experience as a Licensed Land Surveyor, with knowledge and experience in operating GPS equipment, total station instruments, and data collectors. Experience with Trimble TBC and Trimble GPS Equipment preferred. Experience with control, cadastral/boundary topographic surveys, and construction staking is required. Experience and proficiency with ACAD required. Experience with ACAD Civil 3D preferred.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    • Licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor in Nevada (California is preferred) required.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

     Mathematical Skills

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical analysis, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to perform complex surveying computations such as geodetic computations, GPS adjustments, traverse adjustment and analysis, and level adjustment and analysis.

    Job Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to clients, co-workers, and the public.
    • He/she must also have excellent writing skills and be able to communicate effectively with large and diverse groups.
    • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
    • Ability to solve problems, interpret data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
    • Proficiency with survey instruments including GPS, total stations, levels, handheld calculators, and computer applications including AutoCAD, email, word processing, spread sheets and survey coordinate geometry software.
    • Ability to recognize survey boundary law issues and resolve same with sound judgment and legal procedures. Report issues and results effectively with supervisor for review and approval.
